Protein foam: |
Protein foam is a mixture of protein hydrolysate, foam stabilizing compounds, freezing point depressants & preservatives carefully blended to produce a homogeneous, stable foam concentrate. It is designed for class B fires, which involve hammable liquids like petrol, diesel, N-heptane etc. suitable for use with fresh as well as sea water. PH is neutral. It is non-toxic, non corrosive and conforms to IS:4989 (Part-I) |
|
AFFF: |
Agueous film forming foam is a combination of fluorocarbon surfactants and synthetic foaming agent. It is a clean transparent liquid, non corrosive, nontoxic and has neutral PH.
It is available in 3% and 6% concentration
3%--- 3 parts of concentrate to 97 parts of water.
6%--- 6 parts of concentrate of 94 parts of water. |
|
AFFF is compatible with a wide range of conventional foams including protein and fluoroproteien foams and can be applied simultaneously with the types of foams and Dry Powder for separate application or as a twin agent system. It has penetration qualities as a wetting agent when used on class A fires. |
|
AFFF has a superior knockdown performance on all type of Hydrocarbon fires. The surfactants cause rapid spreading action over the burning fuel surface. AFFF forms a sealing aqueous film of the the hydro carbon fuel so that inflammable vapours are suppressed with a thin foam cover. |

For extreme sub-zero conditions: |

IFP UNLIGHT AFFF can be specially formulated for extreme sub-zero conditions where a concentrate is required to be freeze protected to minus 30 C or even less. |

AGFFF: Alcohol resistant Foam concentrate. |
|
This is a low and medium exp. Foam concentrate for classes A & B fires, which a cohesive regenerative polymeric second barrier which floats on the water soluble liquid preventing forma bubbles from mixing with polar solvents (Alcohol / Esters / Ketones and aldehydes) It is used on fires involving water-miscible / water based flammable liquids like Alcohols, esters etc. On hydrocarbon fire (Petrol / Gasoline) it forms a film like AFFF. It is highly effective for preventive blanketing of toxic fluid spills. (e.g. Ammonia, Chlorine etc.) and can be applied with fresh / brackish seawater without affecting quality of fire fighting. On a normal Hydrocarbon fires of Petrol or gasoline it forms a film like AFFF. It has rapid biological degradation rate and is environment friendly. |

Method of charging: |
|
1. Remove cap union.
2. Unscrew used CO2 cartridge
3. Wash thoroughly Branch Pipe, Hose, Syphon tube and container with water.
4. Pour three-fourth level of the container with water. Pour 540cc of AFFF concentrate. Stir the solution and add water into it upto the liquid level.
5. Check the weight of the CO2 gas cartridge for its full weight engraved on the hexagonal side of the neck and screw it onto the cap union.
6. Check pierce for free movement in the cap union. Re-engage safely clip onto its position.
7. Screw the cap union tightly onto the neck ring.
8. The extinguisher is now ready for use. |

Advantage of mechanical foam: |
|
It has a higher expansion ratio than chemical foam and better burn-back resistance. Chemical foam, being water-based cannot be used for fighting fire in water in miscible liquids like acetone, alcohol, methylate spirits etc. A special alcohol resistant mechanical foam, AGFFF is available which forms a polymeric second barrier and prevents the foam from mixing with the alcohol. If alcohol resistant foam is not available the burning liquid should be diluted with water. A solution containing less than 15% alcohol cannot burn. |
|
Chemical and mechanical foam used together are incompatible. |
|
Mechanical foam and Dry Powder are compatible but to some degree burn back resistance is adversely affected. Chemical foam should not be used in combination with dry powder as the stearate used in Dry Powder causes the foam bubble to collapse. |
|
Foams should not be used in combination with vaporizing liquid extinguishants. Extinguisher for B and C class fires: |
